How I made $3185.21 In One Month of Blogging

In reading this post, please keep in mind that Amanda has a very tight target market: moms, and she knows exactly what they want to read! Important keys to all that she shares below are #1: Know your target market and #2: Give them what they want, need and desire (don’t know? then, ask them!) in orderwords: Dominate your target market!

This is guest post by Amanda J. Harris owner of the Pajama Mommy Community and The Blog World

I would like to say that you too can make this!

I am just sharing with you where I made what, and how I am doing all of this. Since I am working my @#% (butt) off to make this kind of money. I am here to explain to you how I did it and what I used.

Now at the end of the month, I was working on some direct advertising deals however they have not been added since the final amounts are still unknown; but some were almost around $3,000 for the month of August. So I’m starting out August looking good.

However, I am here to share My July… now July was amazing!

I seem to only be moving forward, but I’m telling you it is possible to fluctuate in the amount made; so I still have NOT quit my day job. I don’t know for sure when it will go down, and if I can afford to quit; since I can potentially make nothing one month and a million the next, you know?

Pay Per Post: $ 172.50 [Ponn: I have no idea how to do this…so, Amanda, your tips?]

Smorty: $24 [Ponn: Ditto to the same remark above…Amanda? hee hee…you said you’d share “how” ;-) ]

Text Link Ads: $614.96

Have you been counting in just 3 places? That’s ALREADY $811.46, which I have just earned enough to pay for car insurance and rent! That’s great right?

As you can see Smorty didn’t make me a lot; but the fact is: every little bit helps. Don’t just dump something if it is only making you a small amount since at the end of the month it does add up.

Sponsored Reviews: $549.25

Consulting: $1,000 — this I get because of both of my blogs.

Text Link Brokers: $260

Review Me: $210

Direct Advertisement: $355

Grand total: $3185.21

  • I work 5 days a week from 9-5 at both my job and my websites.
  • In one day, I sent out over TWO THOUSAND EMAILS to media companies.
  • Whenever I find a store I like, I email them my media inquiry even if I’m going to shop at that store I email them! I send it every where. I work my (*& (tail) off.
  • My RSS feed isn’t the greatest because people can’t decide on a newsletter or an RSS feed, but both options are available; its whichever users like, and I will dump the alternative. Since I can’t post and do newsletters frequently. I don’t have enough time. [Ponn: You know I’ll totally persuade her to keep both…even if I have to write the content myself! hee hee…most of that is a joke ;-) ]
  • But I use my affiliate links, I ask people to use them to help me expand my websites.

All my money is going to paying off my severe debt and going back into Pajama Mommy which is my passion. If users know what it is going on too; they are more prone to help you out! Now, I am no JohnChow but I am getting up there!

Today I already started out my text link earnings at over $300…that’s nice to see I have $300 dollars coming to me by the end of next month on just one endeavor. Granted its not the $1400 John Chow makes but I am trying!

Plus I am trying to get more direct advertisement so I can be in control of all my ads and really expand on the site and not have to share a ridiculous 50% profit with anyone.

I still think TLA is raking me over the coals with that percentage. They also own ReviewMe.com, and I don’t use them as much since again I only make 50% which is definitely not what I’d like to.

Charging the $200 for a review on SponsoredReviews I make $130 per review; but on TLA I only make $100. I want my extra $30 people haha! :-D I’m greedy but there is nothing wrong with that. You need to be greedy too.

Undoubtedly, my blog has gained in ranking, and money-earned simply by hiring Amanda to take over in many areas of my online business…and she can for you to! She knows I love her to death…but now with 2 readers and one “early-reader” (yes, our 4-year old reads 2-3-letter words ;-) ), they’re often on my blog…so I had to edit a special A-word that’s not allowed in our house, or this blog…hee hee. Amanda is such a bad-A%# and she totally keeps me young! But, more importantly; She can help YOU make more money from blogging, contact us today to a free 20-minute consultation!

As always, share your thoughts, questions, concerns below. Amanda (and I) would love to help you out!

  1. What a great result Amanda, congratulations!

I would be really interested to hear your results with the cold calling emails? This is one area I think could really help my site, but scares the crap out of me. I am such a wuss and am worried about the reaction I will get. But sitting and waiting for people to contact me is really not working.

  2. Great post Ponn. And Kudos to Amanda.
Will there be a follow up post? I’d be interested to read how some of the things she is using work.

  3. Leigh
Fortunately her mail-out list was *not* not-targeted information. They were media leads seeking media pitches, so they’re expecting emails from unfamiliar marketers. Nonetheless, her efforts for the *massive-mailing-of-1-day* should totally be “tracked” for results.

    Amanda, your success so far?

    Karen
I’ve asked Amanda to respond to my bolded questions either in the comments or directly within the post (the latter being preferred)…we’re all curious, huh?

  4. I happen to do a lot of cold call emails to TARGETED places. So unfortunately Ponn was incorrect. Anytime I visit any place that sells or has anything to do with parents I email them. I have to send at least 40-50 emails a day. From small companies to large it doesn’t matter. My 2,000+ emails were NOT ALL targeted. But my daily ones are.

What has that resulted in? I have been contacted by 2 publishing companies to interview their authors. More give aways on the site. Granted it may not have resulted in what I had hope but the fact is, it improves the traffic to the site and allows me to catch the eyes of some larger people. I received several book review requests from it so far. Some emailed me and said why are you emailing me? haha

I can do follow up posts, explain each individual program that isn’t an issue. But you have to stay on the ball thats the main concern. I have been contracted at $1,000 a month from one company and thats great since I am trying to transition from home. I have a few deals coming up and you never know where deals are going to come from. I did a sponsored review for pay per post and the emailed me asking to purchase advertising on the site. Really its about putting your site up there. I have an assistant who is helping me. I also have a few friends who give me ideas on how to expand to different people. As I try to expand I am also purchasing a larger server to do more things to the site I wouldn’t normally do on the server I am at. I have so much stuff will help. You can email those same people and send out even more press releases. It is important. I don’t send out just simple press releases I personalize every email. Which is very helpful.

  5. Amanda

    Silly! “*not* not-targeted” = “Targeted” Double-negative = Positive.

I know it gets confused sometimes…so, I am correct. LOL :-D

Another important point Amanda touches on is: Personalization…if that’s even a word… She has her target market and she follows-up in a “personal” manner!

Again, Amanda *knows* a ton–which is obvious in her success online–time to get her on Your Team; she’s already on mine :-P

  6. It is a word! In the Amanda Dictionary!

  7. Amanda…congrats!
In the past few days I have signed up for Sponsored Reviews as well as sent out some interesting emails. Its amazing what you get in return. If you target your niche people can be interested.

Of all of the emails I sent out (maybe 10?) I have three companies interested in donating products for giveaways. Signing Time, who is promoting their new Series, Therapy Shoppe, a company dealing with Sensory issues, and the Allergy Grocer. They are great companies that I know my readers will want.

    Thanks for the info!

  8. Definitely. Do not be afraid to contact even larger companies. I am getting replies back from things I sent back 3 months ago. But the fact is they have to sift through you definitely want to make sure you give them stats and demographics in the email though! VERY KEY!

  9. wow! Great tips and steps there! Thanks for sharing your secrets!

  10. Pickel
That’s great results! Congrats to you too :-D

    Amanda
    Ditto to “personalization”.

Yes…plant the seeds, build momentum, and bang! A beautiful, prosperous rose!

    Eve
Girl, thanks for stopping by! Amanda is a power-house with tons to share!

  11. Thanks for the clarification Amanda. And the great pointers.

  12. I am planning on writing a follow up post but I would really like to cater it to what you guys would like to know most about? So if you can ask your questions for more how to or in depth so I will know when I write the next one!

  13. Wow. This was a great post. Thanks Ponn and Amanda. It’s nice to know that it’s possible to live a dream if enough energy and determination is put into it! Congratulations!!!

  14. Karen
Amanda is great with follow-up answers…as, I, too, post detailed questions to pull it outta her ;-)

    Amanda
I’m glad we’ll be unveiling my new theme soon, because–yippers–our idea of having you ‘guest blog’ at least 1-2 a month will be perfect, specifically to blog montenization!

    Cindy
Dedication too! Thanks for noticing ;-)

  15. wow this is very motivating and inspiring. often times it seems overwhelming and even impossible to get the ball rolling. In reading about your efforts you have lit a fire under my butt lol thank you so much for sharing. I love this website!

  16. Hey Ponn.. and Amanda,

Way too cool! Thanks for sharing.

Yes, Amanda is sharp since I, like the rest of you, headed on over to PJmommy to investigage, witness, and of course.. comment (love the do follow!)

My questions: (forgive me if they were answered)

    1) when did you start?
    2) did you always maintain your course, or did you realize this could get good and vamp it up a few notches?
    3) I noticed your staff page, with other writers - are they PAID staff? (I did see you have an intern in addition). $3000+ a month is sweet, but not if you need to support another 5-8 people :)
    4) Do you approach companies so that you can offer them sponsored reviews or offer giveaways and cut out the middle man?

ok.. that should do it for now :)

    Thanks!

  17. Andrea
    hee hee…too funny!

No, these specific questions were not already covered here on my blog, and while I do know the answers…I wouldn’t want Amanda and I to go back and forth about grammar, typos, misunderstandings, etc. again…hee hee LOL :-P

    So, Amanda–it’s your floor!

BTW, if you don’t ask…you’ll never get the questions answered, right?

    Your always welcomed here Andrea!

  18. In the mean time as I prepare my other post. I will give quick answers.

    I started in Feb.
I have staff but they are unpaid. MY intern works for free books that I get hahaha The other writers, do it for the fun of writing and the dofollow along with the hope that pajama mommy itself not all my other blogs included will make enough money to give them some!
I maintained course but as supply and demand you raise your prices and lower them when needed
I approach and get approached. I send out tons and tons of emails on adaily basis I keep them in my drafts for easy access with the basic information needed.
You will never know where your next advertiser will come from. I got one from doing a $7 dollar review, I normally don’t do those but the fact is it was super cute items and it scored me a really nice yearly advertising!

  19. Great blog post!

I’ve read it and all the comments…and I’ve read it again…yet I still seem to be missing the targeted/untargeted emails part…what exactly are you emailing them about?

  20. Great work Amanda! You earnings are well deserved considering your efforts.

After reading some of the other comments, I would really like to applaud you. Best of luck building on your earnings.

  21. DJ,

I send out my own version of a press release. To either gain potential sponsors, or products for giveaways etc. I have over a years worth of contests lined up for it! Plus tons of free product being sent to me for product reviews

One day I came home to about 4 boxes of books from publicists wanting me to review them. So I have gotten a lot of publicity plus I can call up a lot of places and state that I own the website and a lot of them know my by name because of the emails.

  22. […] Empower Women Now shares how one blogger made $3000 + in one month of blogging […]

  23. Thats great, although I question the wisdom of all those paid posts in the long run. Sure, the extra money is great for the time being, but if you’re building a brand, credibility is key. PayPerPost and paid reviews both make people wonder.

  24. This is a really inspiring post. Keep up the good work :)

  25. Granted you are right however it doesn’t really make that much of a difference if you are well spoken and dont just take any review that comes your way.

Because of the fact that I announce that my websites are done through sponsored reviews, and we use it for the expansions of the websites it doesn’t matter and I work with a lot of large companies, baby einsteins, simon and schuster, penguin publishing. Etc.
