Asian Pacific American Heritage Month Celebrated in May

Toledo, Ohio (May 28, 2005) - May’s Asian Pacific American Heritage Month was celebrated by Women’s Empowerment Author Ponn M. Sabra, by sharing current trends of Asian and Asian Pacific American Women Entrepreneurs, in honor of her own heritage as a first-generation Filipino-Thai American.

In celebration of the 2005 Theme “Liberty and Freedom for all”, Ponn M. Sabra, Author of Empowering Women to Power Network and the Empowering Women Entrepreneurs Right Now Blog, shares empowering trends of Asian and Asian American business women throughout the month of May.

Highlights include:
- A post entitled “Asian Women On Top of Their Business” in which Asian women are commanding leadership roles on their own feminine terms. Data attached shares their charity and generosity outside of the boardroom as well.
- A Fact Sheet that outlines the success of “Asian American Women and Entrepreneurship” detailed by the National Women’s Business Council.

o As of 2004, there are an estimated 419,793 majority-owned, privately-held firms owned by Asian and Pacific Islander women in the U.S., employing nearly 544,000 people and generating $69.7 billion in sales.
o Between 1997 and 2004, the number of Asian and Pacific Islander women-owned firms increased by 9 percent, employment grew by 73 percent and sales rose by 83 percent.
o More than 1 on 12 adult Asian and Pacific Islander women in the U.S. is a business owner, compared to just 1 in 18 of all adult women in the U.S.

Ponn M. Sabra states that, “The data is personally empowering as an Asian-Pacific American women entrepreneur. Nonetheless, I believe these articles have the ability to empower all women entrepreneurs worldwide, because it continuously shows that when women conduct business on their own feminine terms, they are able to reach and exceed their own business goals.:” Sabra continuously shares that “Empowerment is about having choices. Each woman has a choice to be her best self. So, chose to be a woman, and stop trying to be ‘like the guys’.”
