Are You Selfish? If not, let everyone follow your lead

i follow logoTechie-I-am-not. But, I know deep within me–there’s not a selfish-soul inside here!

Fortunately, I “do follow”all my commentors with live links to their blogs…thanks to my awesome Virtual Assistant, Jen. How? I have yet to find out…

DoFollow plugin. Add Askimet for comment spam. And, for the rare 2% of bloggers that get excessive spam on-top of Askimet, plugin Bad Behavior...I haven’t had any problems since! BTW, SpamKarma…did nothin’ for me at all!

As naive as I am…I didn’t even know that some blogs ‘do not follow’…yikes! I’d like to hope they continue “unknowingly”. After all, I unknowingly knew Jen had to adjust my plugins or scripts to make it possible.

Hence, I walk hand-in-hand my dear friends Gayla and Char–as I forge forward in this ‘Do Follow Movement’.

I will use Gayla’s blog as my guide, as she lists all the blogs who share that you ‘do follow’ in a comment below.

As you’re already a link-love-giver…we’re giving you a bit more link-love right back at ‘cha!

  1. Yeah! I’m excited! Dawud and David will be proud at what they started — of course they give credit further back, but it started for me, with them.

    Thanks for joining in.

  2. We’re storming the NoFollow Castle! Keep shouting and we’ll bring it down. Welcome aboard, Ponn!

  3. Thanks for joining the ranks with us Ponn! And I have just added you to my daily feeds, too.

  4. Gayla, in linking up to each listed above, I noticed most of them had individual posts, so I’ll have to stop by as many as possible.

    Chris, You’re so funny :-)

Char, Sweet, I’m working hard to give it my all over here.

It’s my pleasure to rise up with all you gals!

    Now, to the guy’s domains…

    Peace y’all, Ponn

  5. Thanks for the mention! I’ve enjoyed reading through your site - lots of helpful stuff here!

  6. Welcome to the No NoFollow club!

By the way, nice theme choice. I’m also using Brian Gardner’s Vertigo theme. ;)

  7. Want to tell everyone that you’ve turned off the nofollow in your comments? Check out my new “ifollow” logos- grab one for your sidebar!
    http://randaclay.com/archives/the-i-follow-movement

  8. Randa, My pleasure. This is so much fun & thanks for designing a great little logo. I’ll come up soon…don’t know if you saw how “non-technie” I am…

David, So sorry for missing you on my list…All fixed now.
Anyways, I love how you customized Brian’s Vertigo theme. He has nice, smooth, clean-work…and is such a nice, professional, charitable guy too.
BTW, I’m partial…but my VA Jen, did a great job on my logo…hoping for a vote in your Creative Design Contest too ;-)

    ~ Ponn

  9. Yay! I got the logo up! Thanks again Randa :-)

  10. Hey… I also wanted to add to Ponn’s post here. Trackbacks are really good for blogs. It helps the robots scan through to other blogs. So with that being said if you ever come across a blog post that you really love or even blows your socks off ;)… do this!

Copy the URL of that blog post… go over to your blog right a post about that particular blog post and make sure you put that URL link into the blog post. That way you are doing a trackback and you never know how many more followers you will be sending to your friends or fellow mentors blog!

It’s called sharing the love. We all love getting the spotlight every once in a while right?

  11. I installed doFollow on my wordpress. So I do follow comments. :D It’s so nifty.

  12. I’m listing you Jenny!
You go girl, glad to have you in our great company!
Pass on the great news :-)
    ~ Ponn

  13. One thing it might be worth doing is stating which plugin you are using, and what restrictions.

Maybe you have set a timer before nofollow disappears, and maybe you dofollow after a certain number of comments.

I am not doubting you have something installed, but a visitor using Search Status for Firefox currently sees a lot of pink boxes.

  14. Hi Andy.
Thanks for bringing this to my attention, although I do not understand everything you wrote (techie-I-am-not). :-(

As stated in my post, I asked my VA-Jen to reply with how we take care of this issue, as my intent is to inform everyone.

    I’ll keep you posted.

But, if you have a moment, can you define what your last line means,”but a visitor using Search Status for Firefox currently sees a lot of pink boxes.”

What are pink boxes? I use Firefox, what should that inform me of the website author?

    Many thanks,
    Ponn

  15. The clearest explanation about pink is probably the one Vlad wrote. I have written probably 20 blog posts about pink boxes now, but most of them are quite long.

    http://www.volodymyrzablotskyy.com/pink-pink-pink-pink-pink-pink-pink/

If you point your readers at that post, they might also install the search status plugin.

Search status reports data in the same way as the Alexa toolbar, and mentioning the plugin does help your Alexa rating tremendously, but that doesn’t mean you have more traffic, just a higher userbase reporting.

  16. Thanks so much Andy!
I installed it, and I’m addicted!

WOW–all this data literally at the our finger tips.

I’m so glad I asked the question and you answered. What seemed so greek to me, was simply described in one tiny comment and post. Well, I know there’s much more to learn, but now I understand your comments fully…and can better address your other issues.

Again, technical-I-am-not. I tried desperately to figure out where the wp-content/plugins folder/file is so I can learn how to install plugins myself…and well, 2-hours later, my time can better be spent this busy Sat. before our server move tomorrow…

Again, I’ll keep everyone posted. Our pink will be down very soon. I’ve very sorry for being totally mis-led, mis-understood…I’m trying hard to figure this all out :-l
    ~ Ponn

  17. Wow. You’d think that after immersing myself in blog culture for the last two months I’d have heard about this. Instead, I’ve been a selfish blogger this entire time. Thanks so much for writing about this so I am no longer slighting others by means of my own ignorance. Also, I’m trying to launch a new blog and getting some link love of my own doesn’t hurt.

    Sara

  18. Hi Sara.

My dear, do not fret! Many bloggers do not know they are doing this. Now, that you’re empowered with this information, its time for action! So, I look forward to you writing your post, placing your plugins, and returning with a link, so we can add you to this great list. Then, join our dynamic BumpZee Community…they are simply the best people involved!

    See you soon ;-)
    ~ Ponn

  19. […] are my new adds to this list: supplied by Ponn at N Power Women’s post on this: N Power […]

  20. Hey Ponn,

Thanks for stopping by and informing me of your participation in the Do Follow.

I have a post that I wrote on this myself as you know, and I’ve added everyone listed here to date on the post.

I’m linking to their home pages so that the link love doesn’t get buried in their archives.

You can find my post on this here .(I hope I wrote the code properly, I’m HTML chllenged :)

BTW, the link to MomGadget is broken. Here’s the link to the home page http://momgadget.com/

    Cheers!

  21. Oooops, it appears the code is wrong. Here’s where you can find the post, and i’ve credited vous with the new adds:

    http://www.fastlanetransport.ca/blog/i-will-follow-do-follow/blogs-websites

  22. Hi Deborah.

Seems like Gayla’s blogpost (MomGadget.com) is down (the original with the full list that I copied and pasted here.)

Thanks for sharing the credit as you got all my updates, but Gayla was the first to start all the list.

Also, I tried to link to everyone’s post that was specific to the DoFollow Movement, because
    (1) many people kept lists to and want to share the credit and link love, making it easier for everyone, (2) I wanted to comment/trackback and build relationships with as many of these very charitable people/bloggers as possible.

I’ll have to leave it to Andy’s BumpZee community to build the appropriate forum.

As for working on lists…I’m a slow 55-words per minute in typing and its much slower with all the different marks. :-P Yucko.

    Thanks again,
    Ponn

  23. I have an I follow post as well (linked to my name in this post) and I went a step further and created the “Do Follow” blogroll.

If anyone would like to join the Do Follow blogroll (requires blogroll somewhere on your site, and of course that you have removed the no follow tags from your site) please feel free to visit this page and leave a comment. I’ll send anyone who comments a copy of the blogroll script:

    http://feverishthoughts.com/do-follow-bloggers/

The list has about 60 blogs already!

  24. Hey Ponn,

I understand what you’re saying about the links to the posts.

If anyone wants me to change their links to their posts instead of their home page, please let me know :)

  25. I’ve got doFollow installed on my new bloggy. :)

  26. I have to say that this concept is great and honestly anyone that doesn’t want it is just living in the past. People get concerned about spam, but that will only matter to the person that runs the blog. Otherwise I wouldn’t worry and just focus on what you are trying to accomplish. I totally believe that if you offer true value like what you do with your blog here then the success and validity will take care of itself.

  27. Hi Cade
I just listed you! Thanks so much for the kind words, I couldn’t agree with you more! Regarding spam, the ideal plugin-plan is to have at least Askimet, Bad Behavior, and install LinkLove.
Stick around, I see you have tons of value at your blog too and we can use your writing expertise and active involvement here at EmpowerWomenNow.com!
    Peace!

  28. I have corrected your site on my blogroll over to
    your blog - http://empowerwomennow.com/news-women-entrepreneurs/
and put in the anchor link
Women Entrepreneurs Blog so it is all done.
Thanks for emailing me about changing it over - otherwise I woould’ve linked to your other website.
    Thanks!

  29. Joanne
Thanks Kindly! So glad you’re stickin around and learning here ;-)
    Ask any questions, Okay!?

  30. Oh Wow, Ponn, thanks so much for posting about this! I had no idea but I’m guessing my blog has a ‘no follow’ setting too then. I need to find out how to get it so that it follows for sure, I want to share that link love.

Hey, glad you’ve got Jenn as a VA, she rocks! ;)

    Angela Wills
    http://www.StarVA.com

  31. Angela

Get on the DoFollow bandwagon girl!

    And, yes–Jenn does rock!

    Hope you stick around ;-)

  32. This is the doFollow blogroll someone made.

    OKidoki that didnt work. xD

  33. Glad you are on the I Follow bandwagon.

  34. Jenny
Thanks. I feel awful…Tricia tried informing me before, and it took you to bring me full-circle, back to her . Thanks sweetie ;-)

    David
    So am I :-)

  35. Thanks for the info, Ponn!

I always thought Wordpress didn’t do “no follow” but alas…I was wrong.

However, I’m making up for it now because I just installed the “do follow” plugin for Wordpress!

Everyone come visit, leave a comment and get a link!!!

  36. That’s an amazing list! It’s going to take me ages to work through it.. LOL.

I have started a directory for “do follow” blogs.. although listing them is a great idea for link love!!

Gotta love the do-follow train. ;)

  37. Julia
Tell me about it! I’m slowly making my rounds…b/c I’ve been blessed with good traffic from others visiting me…I must reciprocate; slowly but surely.

    Peace!

  38. […] follow” blogs can be found on some blogs blogrolls, such as Randa Clay’s, Ponn’s, the bumpzee community, or if you would prefer to target your own niche, check out the “do […]

  39. Ponn, Thanks for keping us up to date on the “ins and outs” of the blog world. If it wasn’t for your posts I wouldn’t know what I didn’t know! Thanks.

  40. Great list!!

  41. I joined not to long ago too. I use the LinkLove plugin which lets me determine how many comments are needed before a person’s like has the nofollow removed. In my case I set it to 4.

  42. Pretty good article. I like it, keep it up.
