Those Wild Business Women
By Debra Dunn
Business Women are going absolutely WILD!!! Talk about a Wild Woman! Each day more and more women are going shamelessly wild and are proud of it. Business women are twice as wild as business men. It’s true!
Women business owners are starting new businesses at twice the rate of male owned firms in the United States. Women now make up forty-one percent of the individuals with a net worth of $500,000 or more. Woman owned businesses provide jobs for 18.5 million people and generate sales of nearly $2.38 trillion annually! [Ponn: here! here!]
Female entrepreneurs are taking the economy by storm. Not only do they own approximately 9.1 million small businesses in the United States, but they are also starting them at twice the rate of their male counterparts. It is true, women business owners are going wild!
In celebration April 7th is Empowered Women Entrepreneurs Day, and hundreds of women from Wild Woman Entrepreneurs are joining in the celebration. [Ponn: check our Celebration post]
“Empowered Women Entrepreneurs Day is an event uniting the tens of thousands of women entrepreneurs around the globe,” said Ja-Nae Duane, president and founder of Wild Women Entrepreneurs. “It is a special and important occasion for powerful and visionary women to gain strength and inspiration from each other.” www.thewildwe.com [Ponn: email me at ponn@EmpowerWomenNow.com by April 17th, and you can get a 25% discount on a years' membership.]
Wild Women Entrepreneurs is a membership-based organization that encourages women to reach their full potential in business and in life. Entrepreneurship is an essentially creative endeavor. Wild Women Entrepreneurs’ objective is to share tools, networks, and ideas women need to assume leadership roles and become fun, fearless, fabulous females. [Ponn: Those Board Members I've met a truly Wild! Ja-Nae, Kate and Lori, are all power network naturals!]
“…it also makes greater progress towards overall economic and social development. Women are responsible for the achievements of increased economic growth, improved productivity, improved distribution of income, and improved employment rate, that’s why we need to celebrate these Wild Women.” Duane emphasizes the importance of recognizing the success of women in entrepreneurship. “Becoming a female entrepreneur reinforces the importance of a woman’s position in society,” she says.
Nationwide, women-owned businesses have grown steadily in each of the last ten years. Empowered Women Entrepreneurs Day calls attention to the success-minded individuals who are dedicated to igniting their business and, according to Duane, fueling their souls. ‘They’re women too independent to oblige by the 9-5 corporate world. They are women who value and love their independence in creation. Women dedicated to fulfilling their roles as both mother and professional, and women who are not afraid to make their own mistakes and fearless in picking up the pieces,” she says.
It’s no wonder women are voting to start up businesses of their own rather than settle for lower pay, or to be passed up yet again for the promotions they are more than qualified to receive. By starting a business, a woman can greatly increase her earning and decision power. Development of professional skills and advancement are also greatly magnified with no limit set on what is acceptable to achieve.
Up to this point, men owned the majority of businesses. Woman have been adapting to male owned business models. As more and more women begin to own businesses, the models are shifting. A trend in teamwork and supportive, group management roles are ever increasing. Many businesses owned by women are flexible and designed to accommodate all roles of life. They allow for family and personal growth, along with increased business and professional growth.
Home-based women business owners are technologically savvy. In fact, home-based women-owned businesses are just as technologically savvy as other businesses. Over half (56%) have at least one computer and nearly four in ten (39%) own more than one. Two-thirds (66%) have a computer fax/modem, and 55% use a cell phone. [Ponn: And, most people still think of men when you think of engineers, computers, technology, etc. The majority of my colleagues and friends...all the wives are much more technologically-advanced then their husbands...except for my case
Women also tend to take advantage of technology to allow for more flexible work time and space. Telecommuting and virtual office tools are receiving increased popularity with women business owners. Women business owners appear to be more open to these advanced technological tools than male business owners.
Flexibility, creative freedom, respect, balance, growth, fulfillment, and increased earning power! No wonder business women are wild with the enthusiasm of owning their own businesses! Move over “boys club,” the girls are here. [Ponn: Here's to the Chic Chick's Club!]
