Ironically, I was working on my “Change the World” post yesterday, and knew it was a perfect time to share Jeanette’s story…and, I was thinking…HOW can I further help Jeanette make her business start-up more successful?

Of course, my goal is to continue to offer assistance via our products, services, build this online community, and ultimately offer remote assistance or shared open source resources for women entrepreneurs near and far…but, I know there has to be a way to microfinance women entrepreneurs in remote locations as well.

What it the Unitus Empowering Women campaign?

Unitus’s Empowering Women campaign is a web-based community-building and fundraising program that invites supporters to create individualized tribute pages to honor the inspiring and empowering women in their lives. Each online tribute and donation helps Unitus and its partners reach more of the word’s working poor with access to basic financial services, including life-changing micro-loans of less than $100. Fully 94% of the 1.4 million micro-entrepreneurs that Unitus’s microfinance partners reach are women.

For every Empowering Women tribute page you build, you let us know how many women you’d like to empower in your honoree’s name. For every $5 gift to Unitus, you’ll help Unitus and our microfinance partners empower one woman with access to a micro-credit loan.

On your tribute pages you can upload photos, videos and personalized stories about the woman that you are honoring. You can also search through all the tributes and see who else in your city or community is an Empowering Woman. Additionally, the Empowering Women micro-site includes in-depth info on how poverty and microfinance affect women, a huge list of additional ways to get involved, a store at which you can shop for cool Empowering Women items, and individual success stories from women in developing countries discussing how microfinance has changed their lives for the better. You can also send your Empowering Woman an e-card letting her know her page is built, or we’ll send her a card in the mail for you.
